Custom Terminology
The Terminology settings allow your organisation to customise the language used throughout the organisation portal. This is useful when your organisation uses specific terms that differ from Junipa's defaults.
Why Use Custom Terminology?
Different organisations refer to the same concepts using different words. For example:
- One organisation might call their locations "schools", while another uses "campuses" or "colleges".
- Some organisations refer to "students", while others prefer "pupils" or "learners".
Custom terminology ensures the portal feels natural and familiar to your team.
Accessing Terminology Settings
- Navigate to Settings > Terminology from the main menu.
- Only users with the Admin role can modify terminology.
Configurable Terms
The following terms can be customised:
| Default Term | Example Alternatives | Used In |
|---|---|---|
| School | Campus, College, Site | Connected schools list, reports, dashboard |
| Student | Pupil, Learner, Young Person | Reports, data summaries |
| Teacher | Educator, Staff Member | Team references |
| Organisation | Network, Group, System | Portal header, reports |
How to Update Terminology
- Navigate to Settings > Terminology.
- For each term you wish to change, enter your preferred word in the Custom Term field.
- If you also need to set a plural form (e.g., "Campus" / "Campuses"), enter it in the Plural field.
- Click Save.
Changes apply across the entire organisation portal immediately.
Where Custom Terms Appear
Custom terminology is applied to:
- Navigation labels and menu items
- Report headings and column labels
- Dashboard descriptions
- Exported report content
Resetting to Defaults
To revert a term to its default:
- Navigate to Settings > Terminology.
- Clear the custom term field for the term you wish to reset.
- Click Save.
The portal will revert to using the default term.
Notes
- Custom terminology only affects the organisation portal. It does not change the language used in individual connected school instances.
- If a term is left blank, the default Junipa term is used.
- All users of the organisation portal (both Admins and Viewers) will see the custom terminology.
