Microsoft Entra ID SSO Overview

Junipa supports Single Sign-On (SSO) using Microsoft Entra ID (formerly known as Azure Active Directory). This allows staff to log into Junipa using their existing Microsoft 365 organisational credentials.

What SSO Provides

When SSO is enabled:

  • Simplified login -- Staff click "Sign in with Microsoft" on the Junipa login page and authenticate using their existing Microsoft 365 account.
  • No separate passwords -- Users do not need to create or remember a separate Junipa password.
  • Centralised management -- Your IT team manages access through Microsoft Entra ID. When a staff member's Microsoft account is disabled, their Junipa access is revoked automatically.
  • Improved security -- SSO leverages your organisation's existing authentication policies, including multi-factor authentication (MFA) if configured.

How It Works

  1. A staff member navigates to your school's Junipa login page.
  2. They click Sign in with Microsoft.
  3. They are redirected to Microsoft's login page where they authenticate with their Microsoft 365 credentials.
  4. Upon successful authentication, they are redirected back to Junipa and logged in automatically.
  5. If the user does not yet have a Junipa account, one can be created automatically (if auto-provisioning is enabled) or they will see a message asking them to contact their administrator.

What You Need

To enable SSO, your organisation needs:

  • A Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) tenant -- this is included with any Microsoft 365 subscription.
  • An Entra ID administrator who can register applications and configure permissions.
  • A Junipa administrator to enter the SSO configuration in Junipa.

SSO and Existing Accounts

  • Staff who already have Junipa accounts with email/password login can transition to SSO. Their existing Junipa account will be linked to their Microsoft identity.
  • Staff can still use email/password login alongside SSO if needed (unless your administrator disables password login).
