School evidence labels and official NCCD mapping

Some schools use their own evidence wording in Junipa so staff can choose labels that match the language used on campus. Junipa can still record the official NCCD category behind that school label, so reporting and audit trails remain tied to the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability.

This means the wording you select may not be identical to the wording used in compliance exports.

Why two labels can appear​

In Admin > Evidence, a school may configure both:

  • Evidence Item -- the school-facing label staff see when adding evidence.
  • NCCD Official Category -- the official NCCD wording Junipa records for compliance.

For example, a staff member might select a school label such as:

Daily emotional regulation check-ins with youth workers to support readiness for learning and engagement in class.

Junipa may record that against the official NCCD mapping:

Adjustments Provided > Record of educational and/or social-emotional interventions provided.

Both labels matter. The school label helps staff recognise what they entered. The official mapping keeps the record suitable for NCCD review, reporting and audit.

Where you will see the labels​

When mapped evidence is available, Junipa shows the school wording and the official NCCD mapping close together on student and staff views.

You may see:

  • Recorded as -- the school evidence label chosen by the staff member.
  • Official NCCD mapping -- the NCCD category Junipa records for compliance.

This appears in places such as the student activity log, the adjustment evidence section of the student journal, staff activity details and mapped NCCD evidence reports.

Choosing the labelling view​

Some pages include a labelling control with options such as:

  • Show school evidence labels
  • Show official NCCD labels only

Use Show school evidence labels when you are checking what a staff member selected or when you are talking to staff about familiar school wording.

Use Show official NCCD labels only when you want the view to match the compliance language used for NCCD review and exported audit material.

If a record was created with older school-facing wording, Junipa may still show both labels so the original staff selection remains understandable.

Reports and exports​

The Mapped NCCD evidence adjustments report helps schools review entries where school evidence wording maps to official NCCD categories. It is useful when you need to answer:

  • What did the staff member select?
  • Which student and staff member does the entry relate to?
  • Which official NCCD category will appear for audit purposes?
  • Are school labels being mapped consistently?

Where available, exports include both Recorded As and Official NCCD Mapping columns. Use the official mapping when preparing formal NCCD evidence material. Use the recorded school label when following up with staff about the entry they created.

What to tell staff​

If staff notice that the wording changes after saving, explain that Junipa is not replacing their entry. It is showing the local school label together with the official NCCD category that the school has mapped it to.

The practical rule is:

  1. Choose the evidence label that best describes the support provided.
  2. Write the case note in clear classroom language.
  3. Let Junipa keep the official NCCD mapping attached for reporting.

Do not edit an evidence entry only because the official NCCD wording is more formal than the school label. Check the entry only if the school label, the case note or the mapped NCCD category does not describe the support that was actually provided.
